Oxfam Italia Intercultura (OII) is a social cooperative founded by the will of Oxfam Italia NGOs (OI) and Centro di Documentazione Città di Arezzo (CDD) to bring together the skills and experience gained over many years of work in intercultural environment and to facilitate the integration of migrant families and their full access on local services, which facilitate the process of opening up intercultural and multiethnic coexistence of Italian society.
Oxfam is an international confederation of 17 independent aid and development organizations working together to fight poverty and injustice around the world. Working in 98 countries, the mission of Oxfam is a just world without poverty and its goal is to enable people to exercise their rights and manage their own lives.
Oxfam Italia group has been working at National and International level since 1976 to build a world with a human dimension. In addition to international cooperation projects in Italy and in Europe, Oxfam is concerned with citizenship education, promoting a social and united economy, the integration of the immigrant population and the fight against discrimination. This process involves the school community, teachers, school workers and managers, as well as Italian and migrant’s families, in a set of actions like: teachers training, classroom working groups, Italian as a second language courses for pupils, guidance for families towards the school choice, schools consultancy, linguistic and intercultural mediation.
In this context, Oxfam helps to develop responsible citizens who are committed to a just and sustainable world. It is an education that defends human rights and the environment and promotes responsible consumerism, nourishes respect for interculturalism and values diversity, that encourages gender equality, participation, co responsibility and a commitment to building a fair society.
